About the Fleet
Founded in 1847 and 1857 as rival shipping companies, the German competitors Hapag and Lloyd merged in 1970, acquiring their first cruise ship in 1973. Currently operating a fleet of five ships, they offer a variety of cruises and expeditions visiting hundreds of destinations across the globe. Primarily for couples and families*, cruises focus on enrichment and adventure.
Hapag-Lloyd provide cruises for three distinct cruise markets; smaller, specialized expeditions (Bremen and Hanseatic), mid-priced market (Columbus 2) and luxury cruises (Europa and Europa 2).
Cruises are focused heavily on the destinations. Primarily aimed at the German market, cruises specifically for English-speaking guests run throughout the year.
Guests onboard the fleets' luxury cruise ships can expect the highest qualified sommeliers, premium spirits and wines, gourmet fine dining and a host of small, personal touches from complimentary embarkation champagne to personalized stationary.
Offering more overnight port stays than many other companies, Hapag-Lloyd is ideal for cruisers looking to make the most out of each port of call while staying in specialised, mid-priced or luxury accommodation.
*Although the fleet welcomes children onboard, only Europa and Europe 2 offer facilities for the entire family.
